MICHELE WEST
ASSORTED WORKS
Oil and Graphite Renderings
Michele has questioned many times while at a museum or studying a book, “where would we be without the illustrations that were left to us by the great masters of the past?” Their work captures such emotion, trends, religion, politics, history, vision, and many other outlets, to such extremes that it actually plays on all your senses. Isn’t the feeling of life, living life, exploring life, and touching life? It is Michele’s hope that whether it be a portrait, event, quiet countryside, or any other subject, to enjoy the feeling of creation while experiencing the brush placing the passionate colors of life on the blank canvas, and the completeness it gives to contribute to the future by placing a mark in the past. This thought and appreciation became her inspiration to draw and paint after the passing of her great aunt, Virginia Cole Veal. Mrs. Veal was an accomplished artist and poet. Michele is fortunate to have as a part of her collection an oil painting and book of poetry by her aunt. While admiring the painting and poetry Michele thought how extraordinary it is that Mrs. Veal will continue to live through the expressions she left on canvas as well as the blessings of her poetry.
Mrs. West began art studies at The Lucas School of Fine Art. After four years of art education, class, private studies, and being honored with several awards for her work, she began her professional art career as a commissioned artist.
Michele has been a member of the Phenix City Art Council and at present is a member of The Columbus Artists Guild. While a previous and founding member of Peachtree Studios on Broadway, Michele had worked closely with Columbus’ Uptown Commission in the promotion of the uptown Columbus area. These promotions included 2006 and 2007 Gallery Stroll as well as planned annual and seasonal events which include, The Uptown Concert Series, River Fest and Spring Fest. She is also an annual participant at Arts in the Park located in the heart of the Columbus Historic District. Co-founder of Ol’ Salem Fine Art and Antique Show and Sale which is held each April in the heart of Salem, Alabama. Mrs. West also has a second gallery location which is solely devoted to the expression of area race car drivers and cars. This gallery is at The Racing Zone, Hwy. 80 in Ladonia, Alabama. She is the premier portrait artist for the drivers of East Alabama.
Michele also extends her support to various charities such as the Upatoi Cup that supports the Boys and Girls Clubs, United Way, and local events.
